DJ Danny-ill (Daniel Mataki Jnr) is a Christchurch-based DJ with over 20 years of experience delivering high-energy, crowd-moving sets. DJ Danny-ill has performed for high-profile clients including the Black Ferns and the NZ Warriors, consistently bringing premium entertainment and memorable experiences to events across Christchurch and beyond.

DJ 101 WORKSHOP ASHBURTON LIBRARY
Huge thanks to Sophie, Jay and the team for hosting us at this awesome library, and to all the talented young people who came along. It was awesome meeting you all—I hope you took something away to help on your DJ and creative journeys.
Big shout out to DJ Darri and the Clubkingz DJ Academy for the extra support and professional RANE gear, and thank you to Ashburton District Council and Creative New Zealand for helping make this workshop possible.

Dan would like to thank the teams at KOJO and Super Rugby Pacific for the invitation to DJ during the sold-out opening weekend at One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha.
It was a privilege to be part of such an awesome moment for Christchurch as the city welcomed a new era with the opening of the stadium and the hosting of Super Round. The atmosphere across the weekend was incredible.
We look forward to more collaborations in the future, with a few more still to be announced, and are excited to see many more events brought to the new stadium.
nz music month may 2026
NZ Music Month 2026 was another huge success, with DJ Danny-ill celebrating the incredible music, artists, and stories that make Aotearoa unique.
A special highlight this year was acknowledging Scribe—from the release of his latest album to his history-making performance at Christchurch's brand new One New Zealand Stadium, helping kick off the Super Rugby season and Super Round. It was a proud moment for New Zealand hip hop and music as a whole.
A massive thank you to everyone who supported this year's kaupapa. Stay tuned, because planning is already underway for NZ Music Month 2027, and we've got some exciting ideas in the works.
duffy books in homes
Danny has been fortunate to be part of the Duffy Books in Homes initiative and to visit several schools around Christchurch as a Duffy Books role model. These visits allow him to share his journey through music and DJing while reinforcing the message that it’s cool to read and cool to achieve.
